Ida Ekblad b. 1980

Ida Ekblad (b. 1980, Oslo, Norway) lives and works in Oslo, Norway. Using painting and sculpture interchangeably, she transforms motifs from a wide variety of art historical references to Norwegian fairy tales and craft techniques but also street art, cartoons and reminiscences of her own childhood.
Ekblads works have a unique vibrancy to them. Her expressive paintings pair painterly gravitas with a mischievous humour and the use of puff-paint on canvas solidify her sense of playfulness and fearless appropriation. A similar mind can be found in her sculptures, poetically assembled from found waste or eclectically summoned from traditional materials as marble or bronze.
