Mickey Mouse embodies the philosophy of "INNOVATION", "CREATIVITY", "IMAGINATION", and "STORYTELLING" that Walt Disney has valued. As a global ambassador for the Disney Company, he has inspired people around the world. The name became widely known in the 1928 talkie film Steamboat Willie, in which Walt himself voiced the character.
Keiichi Tanaami, who is also exhibiting in this exhibition, talks about his childhood memory of seeing this work after the war as follows. “When I was a child, I saw Walt Disney’s animation Steamboat Willie at a small movie theater near Meguro Station. I drew Mickey's figure in a notebook under the dim light of the emergency exit. After returning home, I colored Mickey along the lines and pasted it all over the room, and I was so satisfied that I wanted to dance." .
